Excerpts from Father Hardon's talk on Neo-Paganism:
"The new pagan worships only one god, and that one god is man himself. This new paganism has assumed a variety of names, each beginning understandably with the adjective new. Some samples: it is called the New Theology, it is called the New Age, it is called the New Creation. This is a religion, it has worship, and ritual, to create the new man, so that the new man may create the new world... This new paganism idolizes each person's own mind; it idolizes each person's own will...The god is no longer the infinite Creator of the human race, it is man himself." ~Servant of God, Fr. John A. Hardon, S.J., Neo-Paganism
"The essence of religion, on these terms, redefines the meaning of truth." ~ Servant of God, Fr. John A. Hardon, S.J.
"If we are going to re-evangelize, or for our present purpose, convert our nation from this self-idolatry which has become the religion of our nation, we must live utterly, absolutely selfless lives ourselves. Never, in my estimation, has the world had more need for saints than today. A saint, by the Church's own definition, is one who practices heroic virtue...I will choose especially four virtues that we must practice, and practice heroically. We must practice heroic faith, heroic patience, heroic chastity, and heroic charity...In today's world, and in our own beloved America, we must have the faith of martyrs. You cannot get away with anything less. " ~Fr. John A. Hardon, S.J.
What is heroic patience? "The willing endurance of extraordinary suffering. There must be extraordinary suffering, patiently endured, by those who believe in Christ as the God-Man who died on the Cross to redeem the world." ~ Fr. John A. Hardon
"Never run away from the Cross. Never. Because that's how the new paganism came into existence. And the people, millions that call themselves Christians, are pagans, because paganism is Christianity without the Cross. If we are to convert these new pagans, we must practice heroic chastity." ~ Fr. John A. Hardon
