GK Chesterton Theatre Co. Presents Viva Cristo Rey!

Santa Monica, CA (August 30, 2011) - GK Chesterton Theatre Co. presents Viva Cristo Rey, the story of the beloved Mexican hero, Blessed Father Miguel Pro, written by Cathal Gallagher and Fred Martinez, and directed by Angel Duran.

Viva Cristo Rey opens October 14 and runs through October 30, Friday and Saturday at 8pm, and Sunday at 3pm and 7:30pm at the Miles Memorial Playhouse in Santa Monica, CA. Premiering in Los Angeles October 14, Viva Cristo Rey was originally produced with great fanfare for the Quo Vadis Theatre Company in San Jose, CA.

Synopsis

In the 1920's, Mexico entered a dark period of religious persecution known as the Cristero period, or La Cristiada, which banned the Catholic Church from Mexico. Thousands of Mexicans, both lay and religious, suffered imprisonment, brutality and or death under Plutarco Calles’ repressive government. One such figure was Father Miguel Pro, a selfless priest, who used theatrical disguises and ruses to minister to his flock despite the opposing pressure mounting against him.

This will be the fourth Los Angeles stage production for the GK Chesterton Theatre Company. G.K.C Theatre Company explores issues of conscience, faith and heroism with a special emphasis on the men and women who stood against the current tide of their time.

Tickets are $15 or for groups 5 or more $10. To purchase tickets and or for more information, visit us on the web at www.gkctheatre.org or call 310-462-5141.
