U.S. release date June 1, 2012.
The film chronicles the Cristeros War (1926-1929), which was touched off by a
rebellion against the Mexican government's attempt to secularize the
country. Motion Picture Rating (MPAA): Rated R for war violence and some disturbing images.
"The movie For Greater Glory, starring Andy Garcia, Peter O'Toole and Eva Longoria, tells the story of Mexico's attempt to secularize its culture in the 1920s and strip the Catholic Church of its religious freedom. This film comes at an interesting time in an election year where one could draw loose parallels with today's battle over religious freedoms between churches and the Obama Administration.
"This movie shows what people do to preserve those freedoms when their government goes crazy. It just opened as the second most popular film ever in Mexico. Blessed Jose Sanchez del Rio, a boy martyr, is featured in the story. The movie is expected to open in the U.S. on 700 screens on June 1, 2012. From what I saw in an uncut preview, this is a good film and I recommend seeing it."
