Sweet Jesus, Why the Lenten Meditation During Advent?

Preparing our hearts for Christ(mas).

The most recent profoundly Catholic short video from Apostolate Films focuses on Christ's Passion (it is presented below). While at first it may seem that a video focusing on Advent would have been more appropriate this time of year, this was the exact assignment specifically dispensed by the Lord.

Certainly, the benefits gained by our souls when we meditate on Christ's Passion are necessary for us, draw us into closer union with God, and are vital for us all year round.

We should never, ever restrict thoughts of Jesus' Passion to Lent.  As a matter of fact, every time we participate in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, or pray the Stations of the Cross, or pray the Sorrowful Mysteries of the Holy Rosary, we journey through Christ's Passion.  In fact, we SHARE in it.

In church, we are surrounded by the Stations of the Cross.  Evidence of our Savior's love is all around us, and His love is profoundly meaningful!

Why the Lenten face on a video released during Advent? Upon closer examination of the script and the images, they were found to have closer ties to Advent than was originally suspected.  The face of Lent shares the face of Advent and also Christmas;  they share the Sacred Face of Jesus!  The connection is clear when first imagining Christ held as the incarnation in His Mother's womb, then Baby Jesus held in Blessed Mother's arms, and then integrating those images with the thought of her holding her Son, our Savior, in her arms once more following His crucifixion.

Once the Christmas music What Child is This was selected to compliment the script and images, it became the bridge that spanned the distance between Lent and Advent, and finishing the video presentation of this meditation focusing specifically on the moment the Crown of Thorns was removed from Jesus' Sacred Head was made a priority.  Thus, two important events in human history are considered in tandem.

Such meaningful moments make so much of what we see and experience this time of year appear  meaningless, doesn't it.  Shouldn't it.
