God Uses the Lowly in Very Powerful Ways: A Story from the Life of Venerable Leo Dupont

A poignant story from the extraordinarily holy life of Venerable Leo Dupont, Apostle of the Holy Face Devotion.

If you have not read The Holy Man of Tours:  The Life of Leo Dupont by Dorothy Scallan, you must!  It is an important book for every Catholic, especially in our era when profoundly Catholic role models are desperately needed and tremendously  appreciated!

All for God's glory, you will be inspired to greatness from his story to become nothing, love everyone, and guide precious, immortal souls to Christ.

Leo was such a good person, you will want to be his neighbor in heaven, forever.

AN INVITATION TO DINNER

One day in 19th Century France, Leo received mail from the archepiscopal palace.  He had hoped the correspondence pertained to the Devotion to the Holy Face, and that perhaps the Archbishop would finally approve the vital mission of the young French Carmelite Sr. Mary of St. Peter, which had been sealed by the Bishop following her death at an early age.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE WORK IS KEPT HIDDEN WITHIN THE CHURCH

The records about the Work and Devotion had been sealed and priests were forbidden from passing out literature about them, nor were they allowed to inaugurate the Devotion within their parish churches.

So Leo Dupont, a Catholic layman, carried on the work alone.

Alone, he took up the work so important for humanity that Jesus Himself called it "The most beautiful work under the sun."

Leo established the Devotion to the Holy Face within his home, countless people visited the Devotion there where they prayed for healing and were granted countless miracles.

The Lord granted so many miracles through the Devotion in Leo's home that Pope Pius IX declared him to be perhaps the greatest miracle-worker in Church history.

Why do we hear so little in the Catholic world about such important information?  Why are we being taught so little of real importance.

BACK TO THE MAIL

Instead of receiving good news about the Work of Reparation through the Devotion to the Holy Face, Leo received an invitation to dinner at the Cardinal’s palace.  He had reservations about going, but gave in to the judgment of his mother and accepted the invitation.

Leo was measured for a full dress suit and hired a carriage for that evening.

THERE IS ROOM FOR EVERYONE AT THE LORD'S TABLE

The night of the event, the Cardinal spoke with Leo and mentioned he had heard from a priest about three cures that had been granted before the Devotion to the Holy Face in Leo's home.

Leo made the situation very clear and responded, "The favors continue unabated."

More guests arrived, and Leo wondered why he had even come at all, after having to wonder for so long why those within the Church with the power to promote it were keeping this powerful Devotion a secret.

SO MANY MIRACLES

Another man approached Leo at the party.  He was a physician, and mentioned the cure one of his patients, a priest, had been granted before the Devotion to the Holy Face in Leo's home.

The doctor said that the Cardinal was very impressed with the cures that had been granted by the Lord, through the Devotion in his home.

Leo wondered if he truly was, given that nothing was being done by those with the authority to officially approve and promote the very important and very necessary Work and Devotion.

Leo had opened his home to the Devotion commissioned to the lowly by the Lord Himself.

Leo dedicated His life to welcoming people in need of love, compassion, and healing into his own home, and prayed with them to the Lord with great confidence before the miraculous Devotion to the Holy Face.

He also kept oil lamps burning perpetually before the Devotion, and bottled and shipped this oil at his own expense to anyone around the world who requested it.  Even more miracles were granted in this way.
NO ROOM AT THE INN
When it was time for the guests to be seated the night of the dinner party, Leo suddenly found that all the plates were taken and not one was left for him at the table.

Leo alone remained standing.  A servant realized the error and apologized to Leo, who to be sure was gracious but saw a precious opportunity.  Right away he went to where the Cardinal was seated and  said, “Your Eminence, you see now that I ought not to dine with persons of high rank since there is no place for me…”

The Cardinal tried to catch the attention of the headwaiter to rectify the situation but he was too late.

Leo had already made his way downstairs and before anyone realized what had happened, he had left to go where he felt more comfortable: somewhere else.

GOD USES THE LOWLY IN VERY POWERFUL WAYS

Venerable Leo Dupont is truly a hero for the ordinary Catholic, the good, humble, and lowly people God uses as tremendous channels of grace for the massive conversion of sinners.

"The Catholic Church's Garbage" is coming soon.  Go, Team!!
