"The new pagan worships only one god, and that one god is man himself. This new paganism has assumed a variety of names, each beginning understandably with the adjective new. Some samples: it is called the New Theology, it is called the New Age, it is called the New Creation. This is a religion, it has worship, and ritual, to create the new man, so that the new man may create the new world... This new paganism idolizes each person's own mind; it idolizes each person's own will...The god is no longer the infinite Creator of the human race, it is man himself." ~Servant of God, Fr. John A. Hardon, S.J., Neo-Paganism
"The essence of religion, on these terms, redefines the meaning of truth." ~ Servant of God, Fr. John A. Hardon, S.J., Neo-Paganism
"If we are going to re-evangelize, or for our present purpose, convert our nation from this self-idolatry which has become the religion of our nation, we must live utterly, absolutely selfless lives ourselves. Never, in my estimation, has the world had more need for saints than today. A saint, by the Church's own definition, is one who practices heroic virtue...I will choose especially four virtues that we must practice, and practice heroically. We must practice heroic faith, heroic patience, heroic chastity, and heroic charity...In today's world, and in our own beloved America, we must have the faith of martyrs. You cannot get away with anything less. " ~Fr. John A. Hardon, S.J., Neo-Paganism
What is heroic patience? "The willing endurance of extraordinary suffering. There must be extraordinary suffering, patiently endured, by those who believe in Christ as the God-Man who died on the Cross to redeem the world." ~ Fr. John A. Hardon, S.J., Neo-Paganism
"Never run away from the Cross. Never. Because that's how the new paganism came into existence. And the people , millions that call themselves Christians, are pagans, because paganism is Christianity without the Cross. If we are to convert these new pagans, we must practice heroic chastity." ~ Fr. John A. Hardon, S.J., Neo-Paganism
"...we are to be channels of grace to others. No one, and the word is no one, ever enters our lives, not even for a moment, except that God intends to be a channel of grace through us to that person. But we will be effective channels of grace to others and God will use us only in the measure that we possess God's grace ourselves. Only holy people sanctify other people. God will use us to sanctify every person who, even casually, even momentarily enters our lives, only the in measure that we ourselves are possessed of the grace of God." ~Fr. Hardon, S.J., A Day of Marian Reflection
"Mary is our model for the adoring of Jesus Christ because He is God who became Man. But she... is also our model on how we should adore Him. How do we adore Him? By bending not only our knees, that's mere physical locomotion; we are to adore Jesus by bending not just our knees but our wills. Every genuflection of the body should symbolize the genuflection of our wills. Bending our wills to the will of Christ who is God can be very, very, very hard, but our Lady teaches us...we are to do so by not only submitting our wills...but we are to adore Him with our love. And the essence of love is giving. And the more deeply we love, the more generously we give. " ~Servant of God, Fr. John A. Hardon, S.J., A Day of Marian Reflection
"Heroic charity means not what the world tells us, to love loveable people. Rather, heroic charity means, "Loving those who don't love us. Alas, the precise Divine logic behind putting such people into our lives. Thank God for the unloveable people!" Fr. John A. Hardon, S.J., Neo-Paganism
